A scintillating century by Joshua Persaud assisted hosts the Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) to demolish the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ‘B’ team yesterday in the Georgetown Cricket Association/ Brainstreet Group under-15 tournament.
After being sent in to bat at GNIC’s Woolford Avenue ground by DCC ‘B’, Persaud’s 142 off 60 deliveries took GNIC to 281 for two wickets declared after 21.2 overs with 33.4 overs remaining.
Persaud’s innings contained 14 fours and one six and was his third century within a month after he recorded centuries against East Coast in the Demerara Cricket Board Inter-zone under-15 tournament and for the
President’s XI in the Guyana Cricket Board Under-15 inter-county tournament.
His effort was supported by Christopher Campbell’s 82 and the two shared in a second wicket partnership of 240 runs which ended when Campbell was run out.
In DCC ‘B’s turn at the crease, Persaud, who is known for his wicket keeping and batting, returned with the ball to take 5-21 in a destructive spell of off-spin bowling as DCC ‘B’ was bowled out for 104 in 42.3 overs, with David Marshall making the topscore of 20.
At the DCC Ground, Queenstown, DCC ‘A’ defeated Everest Cricket Club by seven wickets in a low scoring match. Everest batted first and was bundled out for 45 in 23.4 overs with Yudister Persaud making 15 not out. Bowling for DCC ‘A’ Ashmead Nedd was destructive with his left arm orthodox bowling picking up 4-5 while pacers Bhojnarine Singh and Junior Phillips took three wickets each.
DCC ‘A’ replied with 46-3 with the in form batsman Dorian Dickson remaining unbeaten on nine. Everest’s lone female player Mandy Mangru picked up 2-8.
The competition continues today at the DCC ground with leaders GNIC taking on second place DCC ‘A’.
GNIC will enter the match as favourites against the defending champions DCC ‘A’.
The match will also determine the winner of the league stage.
GNIC is ahead with 76 points while DCC ‘A’ is on 65 points.
