Pele FC and Beacons FC played to an exciting 5-5 draw when the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) u-17 football league commenced yesterday at the Tucville Community ground.
Marlon Nedd opened the scoring for Pele in the sixth minute with a finish to the back of the net from inside the penalty box, after evading multiple markers following a solo run from the centre of the midfield.
Pele would double their lead in the 32nd minute as Kerron Haywood netted with a powerful strike from the right side of the field into the roof of the woodwork. Samuel Hunte would pull one back for Beacons seven minutes later through a right-footed free kick from just outside the 18-yard box that went straight through the legs of the Pele custodian and rolled into the net.
Beacons would level the score line one minute after the commencement of the second period as Shamar Barrow
netted with a strike to the bottom of the goal from within the box, after latching onto a through pass.
Beacons would take the lead for the first time in the fixture as Hunte sealed his double with a right- footed strike into the net in the 52nd minute.
Pele would quickly restore parity to proceedings through Nedd who completed his brace seven minutes later, slotting home his effort to the right side of the net from within the six-yard box, after dribbling two defenders.
Haywood would then push Pele back into the lead in the 61st minute, lashing his effort into the right hand side of the goal from within the 18-yard area, following a right-sided cross.
Keifer Brandt would level the scores once again in the sea-saw tussle, scoring in the 71st minute with a powerful header down the middle of the goal from within the six-yard area, after receiving a left-sided cross. The momentum of the fixture would shift once more in the 76th minute as Haywood sealed his hat trick through a strike from the centre of the box that settled into the bottom of the net after pouncing on a right-sided cross.
Beacons however would refuse to give up as they earned a share of the spoils through a well-placed 79th minute Negil Headley header from the right side of the area, that settled down the middle of the goal. In the second matchup, home side Fruta Conquerors came from behind to defeat Santos by a 3-1 score line.
Lynill Holder would stun the home side in the 30th minute with a header into the left hand side of the goal, after collecting a perfectly placed cross from a right-sided free kick.
Conquerors would level the score line in the 61st minute of the second period, through a powerfully struck left-footed Randy Layne that nestled down the middle of the goal, after pouncing on a missed clearance outside the centre of the box by the defender.
The home side would take the lead 14 minutes later as Delroy Holigan etched his name on the scorer’s sheet with an easy finish to the bottom of the net from inside the six-yard box, after latching onto a right sided Ryan Hackett cross that the opposing keeper failed to gather.
The Tucville outfit would seal the come-from-behind victory three minutes later as Layne netted his double, heading his effort down the middle of the goal from inside the six-yard box, following another left-sided cross from Hackett.
