KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – Jamaica will have to do without West Indies batsman Marlon Samuels for the Headley/Weekes Trophy final against Windward Islands starting today in St Lucia.
Samuels has failed to recover from the hamstring injury that forced him out of last week’s semi-final against Barbados at Kensington Oval, and will not travel to Castries.
He has been replaced in the 13-man squad by opener Jon-Ross Campbell, and is the only change to the squad from the semi-final.
Samuels has played just one first class match since returning from the Twenty20 World Cup, scoring 12 and 11 against Combined Campuses and Colleges in the last preliminary round game at 3Ws Oval in Barbados.
Jamaica reached the final with a nerve-wracking one-wicket win over Barbados last Tuesday while the Windwards crushed Trinidad and Tobago by 234 runs inside three days last Monday.
JAMAICA SQUAD – Tamar Lambert (captain), Carlton Baugh Jr, David Bernard Jr, Jerome Taylor, Nkrumah Bonner, Damion Jacobs, André McCarthy, Jermaine Blackwood, John Campbell, Nikita Miller, Brian Buchanan, Sheldon Cottrell, Jon-Ross Campbell.
