Calypso king Mighty Sparrow is set to headline the Annual Mother’s Day Saturday Caribbean Concert in New York on May 10.
The “Mother We Love You Concert” which he has been credited for popularizing, will be held at the Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts at Brooklyn College at 8 pm.
According to a press release, Sparrow will be joined on stage by a stellar cast of Caribbean artists including Singing Sandra, the dynamic Braata Jamaican Singers, Guyana’s sensation Tony Ricardo, Antigua’s indomitable King Short Shirt and Chucky Gordon, the 2014 National Calypso Monarch of Trinidad and Tobago. Shadow and Calypso Rose will also be showcasing their talent at the concert.
“It’s a pleasure to be back on the big Mother’s Day Saturday Concert stage,” Sparrow said. “I want fans to know that The Sparrow appreciates your prayers during my illness and recovery. Moms can expect a dynamic performance from me at Brooklyn Center,” he said.
The concert is presented by Everybody’s Caribbean Magazine and co-sponsored by Municipal Credit Union, Western Union, Grace Foods, Tower Isles and Dennis Shipping. The Sunshine Orchestra is providing the musical accompaniment for the veterans and emerging superstars in the star-studded bill.
The release also said that The Mighty Sparrow is set to receive the Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, the country’s highest award.
