All is set for the commencement of public hearings into the circumstances surrounding the death of political activist, Dr Walter Rodney.
According to a press release yesterday from the Walter Rodney Commission of Inquiry’s Secretariat, the hearings will start tomorrow at 9.30 am at the Supreme Court Library Building, Victoria Law Courts, Avenue of the Republic and South Road, Georgetown.
The hearings which will continue on Tuesday 29th, Wednesday 30th, Friday 2nd May, 2014 are open to all members of the public.
The Commission expects to hear testimony from members of the Rodney family, former and current senior members of the Guyana Police Force and the Guyana Defence Force, past and present members of the Working Peoples Alliance and other persons and groups involved in and/or witness to the death and circumstances surrounding the death of Dr Walter Rodney.

Dr Rodney was killed on June 13, 1980 after a walkie talkie given to him exploded. In February a three man commission comprising Barbadian national Sir Richard Cheltenham (chairman), Jamaican Queen’s Counsel (QC) Jacqueline Samuels-Brown and Trinidad and Tobago Senior Counsel (SC) Senath Jairam were sworn in by the president.
