Everest Cricket Club (ECC) lost to the Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) by 15 runs despite an unbeaten half-century from national player Tagenarine Chanderpaul as action continued Saturday in the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Carib Beer T20 first division cricket competition at ECC ground, Carifesta Avenue.
The 17-year-old West Indies Under-19 player struck five fours and a six as he batted through Everest (121-7) innings to record the only fifty of the match.
Despite Chanderpaul’s knock, however, Everest failed by 15 runs to overhaul GNIC’s 136-7.
Former West Indies player, Clyde Butts made it difficult for the ECC’s batsmen with excellent flight and variations to finish with figures of 2-16 from his spell of four overs. Butts received support from his son Collis Butts, who took 2-21 bowling his off spin.
GNIC reached its total thanks to a late rally from Dexter Solomon who hit two fours and a six before falling in the final over for 40. He was supported by Ranole Bourne (19) and Ejaz Mohamed (15) after national opening batsman Assad Fudadin was bowled for a duck in the first over by Troy Gonsalves who took 3-14.
In the first game at the same venue, Police reached 143-7 and restricted GYO to 122-6 when their 20 overs expired. Ricardo Adams led Police’s charge with an entertaining 26-ball, 41 decorated with five sixes. Jermaine Reynolds (31) and Rawle Browne (21) were the other noticeable contributors. Anthony Ifill, who got rid of the openers, captured 2-14 and Wazeer Mohamed 2-26.
Gandhi Youth Organisation was off to a good start with Abdol Raheem (23) and Chris Deonarine (30) putting together 53 for the first wicket. However, when Raheem and Deonarine’s partnership was broken GYO lost its way as only former West Indies under-19 left-hander Kwame Crosse (17) of the other batsmen reached 15. Troy Benn (2-17) was most successful Police bowler.
At the Guyana Defence Force ground, the Soldiers reached 120-9 before Transport Sports Club responded with 122-5 to win by five wickets with seven balls to spare.
Randy Lindore (23) and Steven Harris (20) added 40 for the sixth wicket, while Terry Frazer made 19 for the Army. Bowling for TSC Azim Azeez was the chief wicket taker with 2-8. TSC reply was spearheaded by 26 from Ryan Hemraj, 21 from Sunil Singh and 17 from Charwayne McPherson as Harris took 2-17 for GDF.
