A boxing coach was yesterday remanded to prison after she was allegedly busted by police with 15 grammes of marijuana at a gym.
Janelle Hope, 22, was charged with possession of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking when she appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
Police Prosecutor Michael Grant said that on April 26, police ranks, acting on information, entered the gym and saw Hope sitting on the stage. They then told her of the information they received and proceeded to search her person and bag. Grant explained that the police uncovered several small white packets containing what appeared to be marijuana. Hope was subsequently arrested.
Grant objected to bail for Hope, while saying no special circumstances were offered to justify her release. As a result, Hope was refused bail until May 29, when the case will be heard at Courts 8 & 9.
Meanwhile, also appearing in court to face the charge of possession of cannabis yesterday was Joel Ally. Ally, of Hunter Street, Albouystown, pleaded guilty to being in possession of five grammes of cannabis and was fined $3,000 and ordered to perform six months’ community service.
