Tournament hosts Fruta Conquerors overcame Riddim Squad 4-2 in their third place playoff when the Namilco sponsored One Love tourney concluded on Sunday at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground, Bourda.
Sceyon Hope opened the scoring for the Mocha based in the 13th minute through a penalty kick conversion, following a foul inside the box on Amos Ramsay by fullback Kishawn Lovell.
Conquerors would level the scores five minutes later as Dwayne Lawrence scored from within the penalty area, after receiving a squared pass from Daniel Favourite following a one-two pass combination with Delon Williams.
Riddim Squad would retake the lead in the 48th minute compliments of a left footed Ramsay strike that took a deflection off the leg of Lovell and went into the net.
The tournament hosts would once again equalise as Williams etched his name on the scorer’s sheet three minutes later with a thunderous right footed drive into the top left hand corner, after cutting into the right side of the box.
The Tucville unit would take the lead for the first time in the fixture compliments of a well placed Lawrence right footed attempt from inside the right side of the area, that settled into the lower left hand corner in the 60th minute.
Jahaal Greaves would then complete the come from behind victory for the hosts, placing his attempt from the centre of the box into the left hand corner of the net, after receiving a right side pass following a ‘dummy’ play Lawrence within the area.
With the win, Conquerors walked away with the third place trophy and $400,000. Riddim Squad for their efforts received the fourth place title and $200,000.
In the feature matchup, Alpha United defeated the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) by a 1-0 score line in the grand finale to successfully defend their title.
