Twelve years after his controversial killing at the height of the 2002 crime spree, the inquest into the death of Compton Dolphin Cambridge is set for Friday at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court and eight witnesses are being asked to attend.
Among the eight witnesses are six policemen.
Wanted man Cambridge was shot and killed at his girlfriend’s home in Nabaclis on June 7, 2002 by members of the police force following a shoot-out. There were conflicting accounts from the residents and the police concerning the circumstances surrounding his death, the residents alleging that along with three other men he had run out of the house after his ammunition had been exhausted, and had not been killed in the house itself. Subsequently, the police said that Cambridge had been wanted for seven murders, including those of four policemen.
Critics have questioned what inquests conducted so long after the fact can achieve.
A notice in today’s issue of the Stabroek News from the Registrar of the Supreme Court of Judicature listed eight witnesses who have been summoned to testify. These witnesses are Odel August P/C #18204 of Cove & John Police Station, East Coast Demerara (ECD); Godfrey Luke P/C #18496 of Vigilance Police Station, ECD; Ramchandra Motiram P/C #17935 of Cove & John Police Station, ECD; Clensford Burnette D/Cpl #12383 of Divisional H/Q, Cove & John, ECD; James Joseph Det/Const #17356 of Cove & John Police Station, ECD; Kwayana Bobb, Det Cpl #14052, Cove and John Police Station, ECD; Carl Abrams of Buxton, ECD and Corwin Solomon of Melanie Damishana, ECD.
