A blistering century by Joshua Persaud guided Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) to a comprehensive victory over Transport Sports Club in the Georgetown Cricket Association/Brainstreet Under-15 League title yesterday, at the GNIC ground, Woolford Avenue. Persaud’s 127 off 85 deliveries took GNIC to a comfortable total of 300-5 declared in 45 overs while TSC was bowled out for 116 in 29.5 overs. Persaud and Kurt Lovell got GNIC off to a quick start scoring at more than six runs an over before Lovell (24) fell in the eight over with the score on 48.
However, Persaud and Thomas (28) added 128 runs for the third wicket to take GNIC to 199-3. Persaud, who hit six fours and 13 sixes, was finally removed-after scoring his fourth century in two months, leg before wicket to off spinner Fazil Dyal with the score on 242-4. Haifer Walters carried on from where Persaud left off to score a scintillating 51 from 24 balls that included four fours and four sixes.
Dyal and medium pacer Anthony Antonio picked up two wickets each for TSC, whose reply was wrecked by GNIC’s Orlando Ghisiawan who took 3-27 from 10 overs. Ghisiawan was supported by Thomas, Persaud and Dwayne Dick who finished with two wickets each.
Antonio (29), Mark Ramsammy (18) and Mark Baptiste (14) were the only batsmen for TSC to make it to double figures as the other batsmen struggled against the GNIC’s bowlers. GNIC will now await the GCA’s tally to prepare for tomorrow’s semifinal match which will take place at GNIC ground.
