Home side Fruta Conquerors extended their unbeaten tourney run to four games, downing arch-rivals BK Western Tigers 2-0 when the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) u-17 football league continued at the Tucville Community ground yesterday.
Tefon Daly opened the scoring for the Tucville side in the 21st minute with a cheeky lobbed shot over the advancing custodian in a one-on-one situation, after receiving a lobbed Ryan Hackett through pass in the centre of the box, following a one-two pass combination with the latter.
They almost doubled their lead 10 minutes later through a powerfully struck Hackett left-footed shot from the centre of the penalty box, which sailed just over the crossbar, after evading his marker.
The lead would be eventually increased in the 50th minute through a simple tap in by Delroy Holigan inside the centre of the six-yard area, after latching onto a flat Randy Layne pass from the left side of the box.
Kevin Boters almost added to the Conquerors score line six minutes later, lashing his right-footed effort just wide of the lower right corner, after skipping past his marker within the right side of the penalty area.
Playing provider to the second goal, Layne should have added his name to the scorer’s sheet in the 73rd minute through a powerfully struck left-footed effort from within the left side of the box, which flew just wide of the bottom right corner.
Unable to fashion clear- cut chances throughout the matchup, Western Tigers would create their best opportunity in the 81st minute through a powerful Wesley Greenidge 24-yard right-footed free kick from the centre of the park, that sailed just over the crossbar.
In the earlier matchup, Santos swamped Black Pearl by a 6-1 score line. Travis Lyken led the way with a double in the third and 50th minutes.
He was assisted by Eukini Nicossi, Job Caesar, Amanike Forde and Randy Roberts who scored in the 31st, 44th, 53rd and 63rd minutes respectively. Netting for the losers in the 35th minute was Tarquinn Atkins.
