Barker’s ton gives MSC first innings points

Nichosie Barker and Javed Rasheed’s performances highlighted play in the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)/Noble House Seafood’s Second Division Two-Day tournament on Saturday.

Barker’s century gave Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) first innings points against Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO).

At GYO ground, MSC made 317-7 declared with Barker being the principal scorer with 139, replying to GYO’s first innings of 240 all out. Barker received support from Corwin Austin (47), Steven Sankar (43) and Jamal Norton and Kefa Naughton who scored 28 each. Bowling for GYO, Shiv Parmanand picked up three wickets to finish as the chief wicket taker.

GYO had earlier won the toss and elected to bat scoring, 240 all out in 49.4 overs, with Treatlon Liverpool (59 not out), Brian Sookram (42), Bhaskar Yadram (29) and Abdul Raheem (26) being the principal scorers. Barker was MSC’s best bowler with figures of 3-55 while Mark Cumberbatch, Sankar and Hakeem David finished with two wickets each.

GYO began their second innings after the lunch interval trailing MSC by 77 runs and three hours remaining in the day’s play. They lost a few early wickets but survived the initial scarce to reach 131-7 in 38 overs when the match was called off with seven overs remaining. Raheem and Yadram top scored for GYO with 62 not out and 29 respectively. While MSC’s Samuel Tixey, Sankar and David took two wickets each.

At the Muslim Youth Organisation Ground, Everest defeated St. Stanislaus College by 236 runs thanks to left arm orthodox bowler, Javed Rasheed, who had a match haul of 12-67.

Everest won the toss and elected to bat scoring 249-5 in 28 overs in their first innings with Rishi Hiralall and Mohan Ramdeen the main scorers with 68 and 52 runs respectively. St. Stanislaus replied with 103 all out with Rasheed and Raphel Singh the wreckers with figures of 6-36 and 2-14 respectively.

Everest, who opted to bat again instead of enforcing the follow-on reached 179-6 before declaring for a second time. Singh (67) and Khemraj Ramdeen (53) were the top scorers for Everest.

In their second turn at the crease, St. Stanislaus was bowled out for 89 as Rasheed and Singh was once again proved destructive with figures of 6-31 and 4-9.
