Home side Fruta Conquerors squeaked past the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) by a 2-1 score line in the battle of the unbeaten sides when the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) u-17 football league continued at the Tucville Community ground on Monday.
Randy Layne opened the scoring for the Tucville unit in the fifth minute with a left footed strike from the right side of the penalty box, which rolled under the body of the goalkeeper and into the lower right hand corner.
The Bourda based side would quickly level the scores in the 12th minute through a Lyndon Dorway header into the left hand corner, after receiving a cross from a corner kick within the centre of the area.
Layne would miss a great chance to put the Tucville side back into the lead in the 47th minute, directing his header just wide of the left corner from the centre of the box, after collecting a right sided corner kick unmarked.
GFC almost stole the lead in the 77th minute as Daniel Ross lobbed his effort from the within the right side of the box, high over the crossbar following a one-on-one with the Conquerors custodian.
The home side would eventually find the go-ahead winner in the 88th minute as Layne netted his double, placing his left footed effort into the lower right hand corner from within the left side of the six yard area.
In the second matchup, Pele FC defeated arch-rivals BK Western Tigers 2-0. Marlon Nedd opened the scoring in the 44th minute with a left footed strike into the back of the net, from within the right side of the box after pouncing on a rebounded strike.
Carl Griffith would seal the win in 56th minute, lobbing the his right footed strike into the empty net from the left side of the 18 yard box, after spotting the West Ruimveldt custodian off his goal line.
In the final matchup of the day, Renaissance FC led by an Idany Jobe helmet trick in the 46th, 50th, 53rd and 88th minutes, pummelled Black Pearl FC by a 5-1 margin. Ahmad Stephenson contributed to the win with a 63rd minute strike.
Briefly giving the losers the early lead in the 30th minute was Tarquinn Atkins.
