Nets defeated Trinity Grid Holdings (TGH) Pacesetters by a 48-35 score line to clinch the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) second division title on Monday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on Homestretch Avenue.
Leading by two points with the scores at 18-16 going into the third quarter, Nets would register 16 points in the period while restricting Pacesetters to eight points to go into the final period ahead 34-24. Nets would then outscore their opponents 14-11 to clinch the title.
Mortimer Williams led the winners with 19 points while Joe Ifill netted nine points. Tariq Cave led the losers with 11 points.
In exhibition matchup between members of the GABA 25 man association squad, Team Elite blew out Team Stars 102-57. Dominic Vicente led the way with 25 points while Dave Causeway, Stephan Gillis and Akeem Kanhai netted 18, 18 and 10 points respectively.
On target with 22, 18 and 11 points correspondingly in a losing effort were Shelroy Thomas, Travis Burnett and Ryan Stephney.
On Sunday at the same venue, Nets edged Colts by a 57-50 margin. Williams, Michael Richards and Pelham Doris led the way for the winners with 21, 12 and 10 points respectively. Nicholas Cassius netted 16 points for the losers.
In the second matchup, TGH Pacesetters squeaked past Pepsi Sonics 56-54. Calvin Harding and Travis Williams led the Pacesetters unit with 14 and 10 points respectively. Leading the scoring for the losers were Junior Lovell and Jermaine Reid with 14 and 12 points.
At the same venue on Saturday, Colts overcame Knights 53-50. Errol Dryden and Nicholas Cassius netted 10 and eights respectively in a winning effort. Netting a game high 22 points in a losing cause was Owen Walton.
In the second matchup, Pepsi Sonics defeated Eagles 71-61.
Jermaine Reid, Junior Lovell, Sheldon Frank and Kerwin Jackson led the way for the winners with 14, 13, 12 and 12 points respectively.
Louis James led the losers with 18 points. He was assisted by Troy Ferdinand and Kevin Higgins who netted 13 and 12 points respectively.
The final matchup saw Nets defeating Plaisance Guardians 64-56. Doris netted a game high 23 points in the win while Williams and Ifill supported with 13 and 10 points respectively. Trenton Woolford led the East Coast side with 22 points while Marvin King contributed 17 points.
