Pele FC maintained their unbeaten record, humiliating arch-rivals Fruta Conquerors by a 4-0 margin when the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) first division league continued at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC), ground on Monday.
Okeene Fraser opened the scoring in the 36th minute with a powerful header into the top right hand corner of the net from within the centre of the area, after latching onto a Shemroy Arthur left sided cross from a free kick.
They would double their lead in the 45th minute as Deon Alfred netted, stabbing home his effort under the body of the advancing keeper down the middle of the net, from within the centre of the box.
It would quickly become 3-0 as Alfred grabbed his double in the 45th+1 minute, placing his left footed shot into the lower left hand corner from inside the centre of the area, following a right sided cross.
The win would be sealed in the 71st minute through a powerfully struck Calvin Shepherd effort. Receiving the ball on the left side of the field, Shepherd upon cutting into the left side of the penalty area, unleashed a powerful strike that rifled into the right hand corner.
Winning coach, Rawle ‘Overseas’ Jones during an invited comment said “I got my players to understand each other as young men and the tactical and technical part of the game. For the game last night that was one of my main plan”.
He further said “I have some young promising players not only for Pele but for Guyana so I told them that if we stick to the plan we will work out. Patience and mental toughness, don’t get frustrated, just keep your shape and everything will work out”.
“The players worked towards that and went out and executed and we came out victorious attacking from the wings. The midfield was also excellent, it is the engine room” added Jones.
In the opening fixture of the evening, Sunburst Camptown and home side GFC played to a nil-all stalemate. Action continues at the same venue with a doubleheader today. In the opening fixture at 18:30hrs, Northern Rangers will tackle the Guyana Police Force (GPF).
In the feature matchup, Fruta Conquerors will hope to rebound from their devastating loss when they face off with Beacons at 20:30hrs.
