A Region One man was charged in the city yesterday with two counts of rape of a 10-year-old girl.
Police reports suggest that the underage girl is pregnant for the defendant, who was not required to plead to the indictable charges when they were read to him by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
The matter was subsequently adjourned and transferred to the Mabaruma Magistrate’s Court, after the Chief Magistrate remanded the defendant to prison.
The case will be called again on May 19.
