Berbice yesterday scored a come from behind 138-run victory over Demerara on the third day of their second round Guyana Cricket Board U19 Inter County three day match at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) ground.
Chasing 212 for an outright win Demerara were dismissed off the final ball of the day’s play for 74.
Scores in the match Berbice 140 and 265-5 declared; Demerara 194 and 74 all out.
Berbice yesterday resumed their innings on 103-3 and was indebted to
Steven Latchaya who smashed an unbeaten 103 off 207 balls with 11 fours and a six.
He was involved in a 109-run fifth-wicket partnership with Ashkay Homraj who scored a brisk 69-ball 61 inclusive of seven fours and a six while Viendra Gooniah chipped in with an even 50 off 178 balls after being given three lives, as Berbice eventually declared at 265 for 5.
Left-arm medium pacer Daniel Basdeo (3-51) was the most successful bowler for Demerara while Steven Sankar and Kevin Paul ended with a wicket apiece.

Sharaz Ramcharran who snared (4-20) and Balchand Basdeo (4-30) and were dismissed for 74.
The match seemed to be heading or a fighting draw but Berbice’s Nial Smith broke a defiant last wicket partnership with the last ball of the final over of the match to give his team victory.
Sherfane Rutherford was the only Demerara batsman to offer some resistance, top-scoring with 25.
The final round starts tomorrow with Demerara facing the President’s X1 at the Georgetown Cricket Club ground, Bourda.
