Mike’s Wellman won the exhibition softball competition held at the Demerara Cricket Club Ground on Friday last after defeating Floodlight by eight wickets in the final.
Floodlight, who opted to bat first after winning the toss reached 101-5 in their 10 overs, with Wayne Jones top scoring with 25. Bowling for Mike’s Wellman, Mike Singh took 2-28 from two overs to finish as the most successful bowler.
In reply, Mike’s Wellman reached their target of 102 with two wickets down and two overs to spare. Lloyd Rooplall made a blistering unbeaten 76 which included six fours and five sixes to ensure his team’s victory.
Earlier in the first semifinal match, Mike’s Wellman defeated Parika by seven wickets in a high scoring match. Batting first, Parika made 198-5 in 20 overs, with Munashwar Balgobin and Orville Black being the principal scorers with 79 and 29 runs respectively while Lloyd Rooplall took 3-23 for Mike’s Wellman.
Replying to Parika’s score, Mike’s Wellman reached 200-3 in 18 overs with Arjune Badal and Greg DeFranca top scoring with 37 and 33 respectively. Sheik Ally was Parika’s only effective bowler picking up 2-37.
In the second semifinal, Floodlight defeated Enmore by 28 runs. Floodlight made 216-5 in 20 overs batting first with Patrick Khan scoring the night’s only century, the top score of 102 an innings which included 12 sixes and four fours. Enmore replied with 188 all out in 19 overs.
