Centuries from opener Sewnarine Chattergoon and all-rounder Veerapen Permaul spearheaded Albion Community Center to a huge 112-run victory over Port Mourant in their semi-final of the 2013 Ramcharitar Construction Service First division 50 overs knock out competition in Berbice.The left-handed Chattergoon stroked 14 fours in his knock of 103 while Veerapen, the former Berbice Under-19 player and the younger brother of West Indies Test spinner Veerasammy Permaul, hit an unbeaten 101, a knock which included 10 fours, taking Albion to a massive 316 for 3.
In reply Port Mourant only managed 204 in 43.5 overs. They were indebted to Tony Mc Kenzie’s 63 and 42 from Nicholas Cameron. Spin twins Gudakesh Motie took 4 for 44 from 10 overs while Permaul returned with his off-spin to grab 2 for 20 from five overs
The match which was played at Port Mourant Community Development Ground, saw Albion Community Centre won the toss batting first and benefiting from a 79-run opening stand between Chattergoon and Guyana Under-15 batsman Adrian Sukhwa (23). Upon the dismissal of Sukhwa Permaul then came to the crease and along with Chattergoon the two put on 137-runs for the second wicket, before Chattergoon was dismissed.
Wicket-keeper batsman Anthony Bramble (5) and Devendra Bishoo (38) lent support to the unbeaten Permaul towards the end of the innings.
Police also earned the right to advance to the final after surprisingly, comfortably defeating Young Warriors at the latter’s home ground in Cumberland. In the match which was reduced to 35 overs a side because of a late start due to preparation moisture, Police, asked to take first strike reached 241 for 9 in 35 overs compliments of 22-balls 56 from all-rounder Michael Newland, Kwesi Mickle with 30, Philbert Wilbur 26 and Rocky Hutson 20.
Bowling for Young Warriors, former Berbice U19 all-rounder Kevin Ramdeen picked up 3 for 50 from seven overs and former Berbice U19 pacer Suresh Dhanai 2 for 48. In reply Young Warriors openers Sasenarine Sukhdeo (51) and Vishal Mohabir (34) put on 88 for the first wicket in 16.2 overs.
Medium pacer Kurt Griffith then ripped through the middle order picking up four consecutive wickets. Videsh Singh (56) who made a half century in the previous round and Rudolph Baker
(10) tried to repair the damage but after they had put on 36 between them they both fell in quick succession.
Young Warriors eventually fell for 174 in 31.3 overs losing by 69-runs. Bowling for Police, Griffith ended with figures of 4 for 37 from 7 overs and off spinner Albert Sinclair 3 for 25 from 6.3 overs.
