A jury was empanelled yesterday for the trial of Kevin Verwayne, who is accused of murdering his partner in 2011 at Houston, East Bank Demerara.
The trial is set to start tomorrow before Justice Navindra Singh and a 12-member jury. Verwayne is being represented by attorney Melvin Duke, while state attorneys Judith Gildharie-Mursalin and Mark Conway will be leading the prosecution.
Verwayne is accused of murdering Farida Ramdeen at Houston sometime between March 3 and March 6, 2011. He was committed to stand trial in the High Court by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry in September of 2011.
It is alleged that Ramdeen and her reputed husband Verwayne had left their West Coast Demerara home on March 4 to visit an aunt who resides in Albouystown when the man decided to change his plans and caught a car bound for Houston instead. At Houston the accused allegedly ordered Ramdeen to accompany him to a dam and subsequently her body was found in a nearby trench.
