A young man was yesterday remanded to prison on a charge that he stabbed his brother after an argument about food.
Zeal Williams, 19, was not required to plead to a malicious wounding charge when it was read to him by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magis-trates’ Courts. According to the charge, Williams stabbed his brother on May 10 in the Upper Mazaruni River area.
It is the police’s case that on the date in question, at about 6:50pm, the two brothers had an argument over food. An angry Williams allegedly lashed his brother to the head with a torchlight and later grabbed a knife and dealt his sibling stabs to the left side of his neck, right side of his back, and left side of his shoulder. The injured man fell unconscious and was rushed to a nearby hospital. Williams was subsequently arrested and charged with the crime.
According to Prosecutor Bharat Mangru, the virtual complainant is hospitalised and is in a stable condition. Mangru objected to bail, citing fears that Williams might tamper with his brother since the two share a home.
Williams was remanded to prison until May 28.
