A Mahaicony Creek mother is taking legal action against a Swami Purnananda Secondary School teacher who allegedly beat both of her children on Wed-nesday evening at a dormitory.
The mother, Debbie Persaud, said her 10 year-old year and 11-year-old sons were beaten by a karate teacher, who was hired to train the children. She said her sons were staying at the school’s dormitory. Persaud said she has filed a report against the teacher at the Cove and John Police Station. All attempts by Stabroek News to contact the school were futile.
The woman related that on Wednesday evening she received a telephone call from the older of the boys and she was told that he was involved in a fight. “He called me and he was crying and he said a boy beat him up. So, I called the head of the Ashram (dormitory) and asked him what had happened and he said he will find out,” she said.
Persaud said the man returned her call and informed that her son was lying and he just wanted to return home. “The next morning, the younger one call and said, “Mommy they beat up my brother bad, bad till he fall down and couldn’t get up” and I went to the school right then,” she said.
She said when she arrived at the school she was stunned by the blackened marks about her sons’ bodies. She said there were bruises on their hands, foot and heads. She said her son told her that it was the karate teacher who had beaten them.
She said she immediately went into the school and asked to speak with the head teacher but was told that she was in a meeting. She further said that a teacher told to her that it was not the school that was responsible for the beating but those in charge of the dormitory.
She said she was instructed to carry the children to a hospital where a medical report could be taken. The children were taken to the Mahaicony Hospital where they were treated and sent home.
“Why would they beat him like that all he did was complain that a child beat him up?” asked an upset Persaud.
