Sunburst Camptown squeaked past Beacons FC by a 1-0 margin when the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Stag Beer first division league continued at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground on Wednesday.
Kwame La Fleur gave the Campbellville side the early lead in the 21st minute with a simple finish to the lower right-hand corner from within the right side of the six-yard box, after collecting a squared Nigel Codrington right-sided pass.
Ewin Fordyce almost grabbed the equaliser in the 47th minute, placing his towering header from within the centre of the box just wide of the right- hand corner following a cross from the right side of the field.
Beacons was then reduced to 10 men in the 64th minute as midfielder Christopher Galloway was given a straight red card for showing dissent to the officiating referee following a foul inside the left side of the Camptown penalty area.
Veteran midfielder Troy Prescod almost doubled the Campbellville unit’s lead seven minutes later, rifling his powerful 23-yard left-footed effort just wide of the left post, from outside the centre of the area.
The second goal continued to evade the Camptown outfit. A flat right- footed Codrington attempt from within the right side of the penalty area, was denied by the Beacons custodian with his legs.
Camptown was also reduced to 10 men in the 89th minute when Prescod was given a straight red card for a dangerous lunging tackle on defender Shane Cooper inside the centre of the midfield area.
