– woman critical
Investigators probing Friday morning’s shooting which left 26-year-old Susanna Da Silva in a critical condition are yet to determine the motive for the attack.
This is according to a senior police official who told this publication yesterday that while there has been no development in the case, investigators are in the process of checking the footage of every security camera in the area.
Da Silva of Lot 75 David Street, Subryan-ville was taking her mother to the Cheddi Jagan International Airport early Friday morning and had stopped at the home of her sister, Vanuza Da Silva, to collect a package her mother was supposed to take out of the country.
Police in a statement said that the woman was in a car with other relatives outside the house on Garnett Street, Campbellville when a car with four men drove up.
They said two of the men, who were armed with guns, exited the vehicle but as they approached Susanna, she attempted to drive away.
The men opened fire, hitting her in the chest. Police also said that after neighbours came out, the suspects drove away.
A relative told this newspaper yesterday that Da Silva was unconscious.
“The surgery finished and we have to wait on the progress. We just got to hope and pray now,” the relative said.
On Friday, the family had said that they believed they were being targeted since this was the second time for the year a family member has been attacked. They further said that Da Silva has no enemies.
