Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) and Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO) were in a fierce battle for first innings honours when play ended yesterday at the MSC ground, Thomas Lands in the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)/ Hadi’s World Incorporated first division Two day Competition.
MSC ended the day still trailing GYO by 34 runs with three wickets in hand as they reached 200-7,
with Cordell Mars and Errol Williams unbeaten on 20 and 10 respectively. MSC’s innings was boosted by a well-played half-century from discarded national opening batsman, Shemroy Barrington who made 51 while Kareem Naughton (45), Nichosie Barker (35) and Steven Jacobs (22) lent support. Bowling for GYO, Dinesh Ramjattan has so far taken four wickets with his off spin.
Earlier, GYO who were sent in to bat by MSC made 233 all out in 57.3 overs. GYO was off to a poor start losing six wickets for 67 runs before a seventh wicket partnership worth a 112 between Anthony Ifill (46) and Garfield De Roche (68) rebuilt the innings. Jacobs marked his return to local cricket by picking up 5-60 from 17 overs.
Wayne Bowlers Jr., an impressive leg spinner became the youngest debutant for MSC yesterday at 11-years-old. He was unfortunate not to claim a wicket during GYO’s first innings but bowled with lots of variation and spin.
In the Noble House Seafood second division two day, Everest Cricket Club is well ahead of Transports Sports Club (TSC) at the end of the first day’s play at the GYO ground. TSC won the toss and batted, scored 155 all out in 33 overs, with Charwayne McPherson and Shawn Massiah top scoring with 44 and 42 respectively. Javed Rasheed (7-66) and Saheed Mohamed (2-40) were the chief wicket takers for Everest who were well placed on 263-7 when play ended yesterday. Khemraj Ramdeen made 84 while Mohamed is on an unbeaten 74. Dwayne Adams assisted with 35. Kevin Ross and Azim Azeez have so far taken two wickets each.
