CHARLESTOWN, Nevis, CMC – West Indies opener Kieran Powell warmed up for the upcoming West Indies camp in preparation for the New Zealand series, with a half-century in the domestic Nevis Premier League on Sunday.
The attractive left-hander smashed 52 but could not prevent his Oualie Pelicans from sliding to a six-wicket defeat to Bath Hotel Blazers with four balls remaining in the contest.
Opting to bat first, the Pelicans tallied 132 for five off their 20 overs, with Junie Williams supporting with an unbeaten 24 and Leeward Islands off-spinner Justin Athanaze taking one for 23.
Experienced Leewards all-rounder Tonito Willett then produced a fine innings of 46 and former West Indies Under-19 batsman Kejel Tyson scored 34, to lead Blazers to victory.
Powell is among a squad of 20 due to start a camp in Barbados on Thursday, in preparation for the upcoming series.
The 24-year-old managed 414 runs at an average of 41 for Leeward Islands, during the recently concluded first class season.
