An additional river defence structure will be built on Fort Island by the Ministry of Public Works (MPW) to preserve one of Guyana’s historical landmarks - Fort Zeelandia – which is located 16 kilometers from the mouth of the Essequibo River, the Ministry of Public Works said today. It follows a visit by managers of the ministry to the island for their monthly meeting. This Ministry of Public Works photo shows the managers on the island.
