The Georgetown Foot-ball Association (GFA) U-17 league recommences tomorrow at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground with a tripleheader featuring GFC and Fruta Conquerors.
In the feature showdown at 3pm, third placed, Georgetown Football Club (GFC) led by Daniel Ross and Isiah Reddy will battle fifth placed Beacons FC and its trio of Akosi Jarvis, Josiah Charles and Keifer Brandt.
Vurlon Mills, coach of the Bourda side, in an invited comment told Stabroek Sport that preparations are moving apace for the match. “I recently started working with the teams two weeks before the tournament started and I think they are adapting well to the philosophy and how we want them to play,” he said. “We are still working on them to be disciplined in their position according to the system but I think they are up for it this weekend. We expect Beacons as the running team to come at us hard. They got a lot of physical players but we prepared to play our football and not theirs.”
“When we get the ball we will pass it and play simple. We have to make each pass positive and we must play for one another at all times. I expecting a tough game; it is going to be a challenge for the team after the Fruta Conquerors game,” Mills said.
The second match-up at 1pm will witness second placed Fruta Conquerors led by the quartet of Randy Layne, Ryan Hackett, Delroy Holigan and Tefon Daly facing off against 10th positioned side Black Pearl FC.
Coach of the Tucville side, Calvin Allen told this newspaper that his team is also training hard for the games. “Preparation coming smoothly but not perfectly so far because some of the players are away with the Georgetown u-17 team. The players available to us have been coming out and putting in some good work,” he said. “We are working on them playing a lot of possession football, playing as a more organized unit and getting the basics right. All in all, the team has been playing well in the tournament. We are unbeaten and I intend to stay that way. We are well placed to come out victorious that day.”
“Definitely we expect to come victorious, I don’t want to predict a score. Goal scoring is an area we have been working on and we will probably score a couple of goals,” Allen said.
In the opening fixture at 11am, league leaders Pele FC led by their trio of Marlon Nedd, Leon Richardson and Kevin Andrews will tackle cellar side Houston Stars.
