Residents in the Rosignol/ Zeelust Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) will now have easier ingress and egress as 21 roads within that area were recently repaired under the Community Roads Im-provement Programme (CRIP).
According to a report from the Government Information Agency, the programme saw the rehabilitation and to some extent the rebuilding of Bennett Dam, Hosanna Street (North & South), Burnham Avenue (East &West), Welcome Street, Rajpaul Street, Railway Embankment (WCB), Edward Street, Jarvis Street, William Street, Mc Rae Street, Jeraldine Street, Henry Street, Murphy Dam, McKenzie Street, Mohan Street, Margaret Street, Railway Embankment (West), Ogeer and Bacchus.
The programme was operated under the auspices of the Ministry of Housing and Water with support funding from the Caribbean Development Bank. Staff of the NDC also underwent capacity building training in courses such as management and information communication technology, which was also covered by the programme.
Permanent Secretary at the ministry, Emile McGarrell said computer systems have also been made available to the NDC for further enhancement in the area of management. He then called on the residents to maintain the roads. He also told the residents that the region will also benefit from the Com-munity Infrastructure Im-provement Programme that will see the rehabilitation and maintenance of cemeteries, drainage and irrigation, community centres, canals and schools.
In his remarks, Region Five Chairman, Bindrabhan Bisnauth extended gratitude to the government for implementing the project in his NDC.
He revealed that five other roads will also be repaired through this programme.
