Bobby Singh yesterday appeared at the Sparen-daam Magistrate’s Court charged with the attempted murder of security guard Karan Persaud, whose nose was completely sliced off during an attack at Pigeon Island, East Coast Demerara last week.
Singh, 32, of Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara, one of four men accused in the attempted murder of Persaud, was not required to plead to the indictable charge when it was read to him by Magistrate Alex Moore.
The charged stated that Singh attempted to murder Persaud on May 16.
Bail was refused and he was remanded to prison until June 6. The other suspects in the attack are yet to be arrested.
The attackers are reported to have been drunk at the time they pounced on Persaud, who they asked for directions to the washroom.
He was stabbed multiple times and his nose was severed in the attack.
Meanwhile, Stabroek News was told by Crime Chief Leslie James that the owner of the shop at Pigeon Island where the attack took place was charged with operating without a liquor licence. He was fined $50,000.
