Transport Sports Club (TSC) fell short of scoring an outright victory against Police in the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)/Hadi’s World Incorporated first division two-day competition which ended in a draw yesterday at Police Sports Club ground, Eve Leary.
TSC, who resumed on yesterday’s second day on their overnight 189-6, with Keon Morris and Devaughn Nandan on three and 74, went on to score 254 all out. Morris and Nandan added another 15 runs before Morris was removed by Jermaine Reynolds without adding to his overnight score. Police struck again when Shawn Massiah was dismissed for nought by off spinner Kelvin Leitch. However, TSC did not lose another wicket as Nandan found valuable support in Kevin Ross. Nandan eventually reached triple figures with a pull shot off pacer Seon Daniels that went racing to the mid-wicket boundary but was removed two balls after by Daniels attempting the same shot that brought up his century. TSC innings finally ended when Daniels had Ewart Samuels caught at mid-on. Daniels led Police’s attack picking up 3-27 while Randolph Knights and Leitch took two wickets each.
In their second turn at the crease, the lawmen slipped to 34-3 before recovering to 114-6 in 29 overs to hold on for a draw. Knights and Reynolds were the two undefeated batsmen on 28 and three respectively. Ross (3-36) and Morris (2-22) were the chief wicket takers for TSC.
Scores in the match: Police 187 all out (Royan Fredericks 65, Rawle Browne 40, Ross 6-62 and Nandan 3-49) and 114-6 (Knights 28 not out, Reginald Rodrigues 19, Ross 3-36 and Morris 2-22).
TSC 254 all out (Nandan 100, Azim Azeez 51; Daniels 3-27, Knights and Leitch two wickets each).
At Everest Cricket Club ground, Everest won first innings points against Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) with Tagenarine Chanderpaul slamming 179.
Scores in the match: GCC 172 all out (Robin Bacchus 76, Delon Fernandes 31 not out, Royston Alkins 29 while Chris Sattaur took 3-15). Everest 365 all out (Tagenarine Chanderpaul 179, Joseph Perry 59, Troy Gonsalves 37, Tariq Dharmalall took 5-112 while Gavin Singh picked up three wickets). The match was called off over an hour before the scheduled close.
It was Joseph Perry’s third consecutive half century after scoring fifties in both innings against DCC last weekend.
At the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ground, DCC gained first innings points in their rain-affected match against Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC). Scores in the match: DCC 352-7 declared (Christopher Barnwell 165, Jahron Byron 76, Antonell Atwell 25, Alistair Ifill 3-71 and J. Groveson 2-74). GNIC 157 all out (Collis Butts 46, Mark Nicholson and Ifill scored 25 each). Due to the weather pattern throughout the second day there was no play.
