Six persons said to be Guyanese were injured, four of them seriously, after the vehicle they were in reportedly suffered a blow-out and overturned on a highway in Suriname yesterday.
Suriname’s Star Nieuws reported that the accident occurred at the 173 kilometres point of the East-West highway within the jurisdiction of Wageningen in Nickerie. The news site reported that six persons were in the vehicle and some were thrown out during the accident which occurred around 8.15 am Suriname time.
The accident reportedly occurred as a result of a blow-out.
The news site reported that the six injured persons were transported to the regional hospital at Nieuw Nickerie for medical treatment.
It said that the driver and five female passengers are of Guyanese descent and four of the passengers were seriously injured.
Other news sites said that the vehicle had Guyana licence plates and was driving from Coronie towards Nickerie.
The vehicle reportedly turned turtle several times before coming to a halt. The Fire Department reportedly had to assist in freeing some of the occupants from the badly damaged vehicle.
