The Guyana Amateur Swimming Association (GASA) has commenced a six-week outreach programmes across Guyana.
According to a press release, executives of the GASA will journey to various parts of the country in search of talented and potential swimming champions to represent Guyana at upcoming events.
The outreach programme commenced Saturday in Region One with GASA president Ivan Persaud and Head Coach Sean Baksh looking to identify talented swimmers who will be required to journey to Georgetown for time trials in their respective age groups.
Time trials will be held at the National Aquatic Centre, Liliendaal under the watchful eyes of GASA coaches.
Some of the swimmers have been shortlisted following their participation at last year’s Ministry of Education/Guyana Teachers’ Union National Schools’ Swimming Championships.
According to the release outreach programmes will be held on weekends every fortnight with GASA officials planning to visit
Region 6 on June 7 and 8 and Region Three on June 21 and 22.
The final outreach programme will take place at Bartica, (Region Seven) on July 5 and 6.
Meanwhile, The Federation Internationale de Natation Amateur (FINA) will be conducting a Level Two Certification Clinic from July 12-14 at the Guyana Olympic House in Kingston. The clinic is free of charge and is open to all Level One certified coaches and all persons interested in starting a career in coaching.
