The Guyana Volleyball Federation (GVF) in collaboration with the world body FIVB, brought down curtains on their six-day referee course which culminated last Sunday afternoon at the Guyana National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.
According to a press release, Course coordinators Carlos Cimino out of Brazil and Marlon Pearson, took the participants through five days of theoretical exercises and one day of practical session held at the newly constructed National Resource Sports Centre.
Completing the course were 15 participants drawn from various clubs and organizations throughout Guyana including participants from Lethem, Corentyne, Buxton and Georgetown.
During his closing remarks, Pearson thanked the participants for participating in the programme and encouraged them to put their newly acquired knowledge into practice. He also thanked FIVB trainer Cimino for the excellent work done over the six day spread.
Cimino too, stated the release, encouraged the participants to be only the best, saying that he will be looking forward to some of them becoming international referees while encouraging them to always come forward and make their contributions and not stay in the background.
He also pointed out that this start was but a small step but with much practice they will become excellent referees. Also on hand to make closing remarks was Gervy Harry of the National Sports Commission who impressed upon the participants their roles and responsibilities and asked them to make use of the opportunities presented to them.
Participants were also very optimistic and are very eager to put their newly gained knowledge to the test and plan to do their best. The closing ceremony concluded with each contributor being presented with their certificate of participation.
