‘Antiman,’ an international film produced by Guyanese-American Gavin Ramotar, will premiere at the Society Against Sexual Orientation Discrimination’s (SASOD) tenth annual film festival, which begins tomorrow.
The film, which will play on June 26, will aid SASOD’s efforts to shed light on lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender issues during the annual “Painting the Spectrum” festival, the organisation said in a release.
Ramotar is a recent graduate with a Master of Fine Arts in Film and Television Production from New York University, where he produced the highly-anticipated narrative short drama as his thesis film, it noted.
SASOD promises ten nights of exciting films in an effort to both educate and entertain audiences and the wider public, by stimulating discussion and debate about Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) issues. “Painting the Spectrum 10 will take viewers on an astonishing passage into the world of sexual and gender diversities,” it said. “It will also seek to arouse in all their true humanity by taking viewers into the lives of persons who struggle daily to be accepted in a world which is still rife with inequalities, especially for LGBT people and other minorities.”
The festivities will open tomorrow with two documentaries, the locally-produced ‘Jessica’s Journey’ and the international ‘The New Black.’
In addition to three local documentaries produced by SASOD, documentaries, short and feature films from countries such as India, Jamaica, France, Argentina, Belguim and the USA will also be shown.
On the second to last night, attendants will be encouraged to express themselves through the arts, SASOD said.
The festival ends on June 29 with screenings every Tuesday and Thursday, in addition to the first and last Sunday. The event will be held this year at the Dutch Bottle Café on North Road, Bourda with only persons 18 and above allowed entry. Admission is free. Showings begin at 6pm.
