A Region One (Barima/Waini) school is being investigated by the Ministry of Education for irregularities during the last National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA).
“It has come to the attention of the Ministry of Education that there were irregularities in the conduct of the National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) in a particular school in Region 1 that has affected the integrity of that school’s NGSA results,” a press release from the ministry said yesterday.
The ministry said it was mulling what actions should be taken. “The ministry is actively considering various options and will make interventions where its paramount consideration will be what is in the best interest of the affected students,” the release said.
According to the ministry, it is because of its establishment of quality assurance mechanisms, to ensure that examinations and their subsequent results are of the highest integrity, that the irregularity was uncovered.
However no other irregularities were found in any of the other schools in Guyana, the ministry said.
The ministry said it remains committed to updating the public with additional information at the conclusion of its investigation.
According to the ministry, the NGSA results are set to be released nationwide on or before Friday June 27, and the allegations will not hinder the issuance. “The ministry wishes to assure all stakeholders and members of the public that this irregularity will not be allowed to affect either the integrity or the timely release of the NGSA results,” stated the release.
