Michael Dunn, a teenager found guilty of holding a Mc Doom family at a gun-point and robbing them of over $200,000 in cash and kind last December last, was sentenced to a total 12 years in jail yesterday in a city court.
Dunn, 17, was sentenced to four years for each of the three charges he faced, but he will only serve four years in jail as the sentences will run concurrently.
He had maintained his innocence throughout his trial but was found guilty by Magistrate Faith McGusty after a trial at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, where the three virtual complainants testified against him.
It was alleged that on December 31, 2013, at Back Street Mc Doom, Dunn along with others and armed with a gun, robbed Margaret Greaves of her gold and diamond ring, valued at $120,000 and a T-Mobile cellphone valued at $35,000. It was further alleged that he robbed Alicia Christian, at the same address, of a BlackBerry smartphone valued at $35,000. Additionally, he was charged with stealing a silver band, valued at $30,000, from Simone Smith at the same address.
Police Prosecutor Seon Blackman told the court at Dunn’s arraignment that the teen in the company of others entered the home at Back Street on December 31, 2013 and held them at gunpoint. Blackman said that the teen and the others pulled out a gun and a knife, then took away the articles mentioned. After the robbery, Blackman continued, the family raised an alarm that saw the teen being apprehend in the yard by public-spirited citizens and taken into police custody.
