Upper Demerara Cricket Association (UDCA) President Bradley Fredericks who was recently re-elected to the post at the club’s AGM highlighted the importance of unity in the operations of the Cricket Administration Bill.
Ten clubs attended the April 27 meeting held at Virgie’s Place Old England, Upper Demerara River, where Fredericks was re-elected.
The entire executive was returned en bloc with members pledging their full support for the body during their 2014-2016 tenure.
In his report, he said hoped that the clubs absent from the meeting would recognise the importance of the Bill which seeks to bring order to the national game which includes Linden (UDCA) for the first time as a legal entity within Guyana’s cricket. Fredericks also said that all clubs in the area should be prepared to cope with the attendant demands expected.
“A new era has dawned on us and we must take full advantage,” he said, as he applauded the government and APNU for legalising the UDCA in the new movement.
Meanwhile the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) is objecting to the results of the AGM.
According to a press release the DCB said it was authentication of the election results.
“The Demerara Cricket Board wishes to place on record its strongest objections to the recent announcement of an elections purported to be that of the Upper Demerara Cricket Association (UDCA),” the DCB release stated.
The DCB, in the release stated that they had warned the authors of the Cricket Administration Bill that the passage of the Bill in its present form will not solve the problems that have engulfed cricket administration since January 2011 when a few disgruntled persons branched off and held an illegal and parallel AGM of the DCB.
“The DCB has always maintained that the crux of this entire manufactured controversy lies in the thorough investigation of the events leading up to this parallel AGM. The DCB had videotaped the Executive Committee Meeting that was held in January 2011 that fixed the date and venue for its 2011 AGM and this evidence was publicly aired on national television,” the release stated.
“Failing to adhere to these rudimentary aspects of natural justice will only create more confusion and controversy, which seems to be the hallmark of this grouping of disgruntled administrators. More so, there is a legal action and interlocutory injunction that currently exists against the perpetrators of this action, namely; Bissoondyal Singh, Roger Harper etc., which is still pending in our judicial system and needs to be allowed to have its natural progression throughout that process. DCB is also aware that UDCA also has an injunction against that body,” the DCB release ended.
