A security guard was last evening shot twice in Sophia and robbed of his $3000 cell phone which gunmen apparently thought was a wad of cash in his pocket.
At around 7:10 pm, Terrence Phillips was on his way home to his `D’ Field Sophia home when the two gunmen rode up on bicycles and demanded what he had in his pocket.
Even as he began taking out the phone the men shot him twice in his abdomen then hurriedly snatched the handset and threatened that if he gave the police any description of them they would find him and kill him.
The incident occurred about three buildings from his home and upon hearing the gunshots his neighbours rushed out to help.
The security guard who is attached to an East Bank of Demerara marine business establishment was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital by his neighbours where up to press time he was being treated.
His family members said that doctors informed them that he was in a stable condition.
“Imagine a phone he pay $3000 for they shoot him…. he said they told him if he say anything they will finish he off,” a close relative of the man told Stabroek News last evening.
The police at the GPHC took statements from the relative as investigations into the incident continues.
