The Bishops High blew-out Charlestown Secondary 52-33 in their U19 matchup when the Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) Conference championships continued on Saturday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on Homestretch Avenue.
Marvin Durant led the way for the Carmichael Street outfit with 20 points. He was assisted by Daniel Haynes who netted seven points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Netting 13 and 10 points respectively in the loss were Amoniki John and Kevin Austin.
Continuing in the same division, the University of Guyana, led by a 19 point showing from Jonathan Pooran, crushed President’s College 50-37. Contributing to the win was Lashawn Hopper who netted 13 points and Rondell Holder who scored 10 points and grabbed 10 boards. Shakeel Garnett led the losers with 14 points while Shaquille Adonis assisted with 11 points. In the final match of the division, defending national champions Marian Academy edged Brickdam Secondary 35-30 in overtime, after the scores were locked at 28-28.
Judah Stephney and Jonathan Mangra led the way with 12 and 10 points respectively for the Carifesta Avenue side. Leading the offence for the losers was Sebastian Luke who scored 11 points.
In the U16 division, Plaisance squeaked past Bishops’ High 26-25 in overtime, following a locked 22-22 score at the end of normal time. Ronaldo Teixeira led the way with nine points for the winners.
Registering a double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds in the loss was Timothy Thompson. In the U14 section, Marian Academy downed St. Roses 27-13. Jahleel Young registered figures of eight points and 11 rebounds in the win while Josiah Daniels contributed seven points. Leading the Church Street outfit with eight points and six rebounds was Kwesi Roberts.
