Dexter George and Tevin Imlach scored half centuries for Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) on the first day of their rain affected match against the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) in the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)/Noble House Seafoods second division two-day competition on Saturday.
George’s unbeaten 78 (9×4) and Imlach’s (64) inspired DCC to 243-9 before rain had the final say. With play beginning an hour late at the Gandhi Youth Organisation ground, DCC was off to a bright start with Imlach and Kemol Savory adding 61 for the first wicket before Savory was stumped by Martin Pestano-Belle off Tariq Dharamlall for 35.
However, after the first wicket fell, constant inroads by the GCC bowlers left their opponents in a worrying position at 119-6 before George and Cleon Mc Ewan (12) added 19 for seventh wicket. When Mc Ewan was caught at first slip off Devon Lord, DCC was in danger of being bowled out under 200 as two more quick wickets fell.
From 143-9, George and Lawrence Smith batted responsibly in a 100-run unbroken 10th wicket partnership before rain halted play. Dharamlal was the pick of the bowlers for GCC on day one with figures of 5-56 while Lord has 3-42.
At Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO) ground, St. Stanislaus was dismissed for 38 in 18 overs against the hosts. Having to bat for approximately an hour and a half after play started at 4pm due to wet spots on the pitch, St. Stanislaus did little to ensure that they batted out the period. Imtiaz Pooran was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets while Parmanand Parsram and Richard Latiff took two each for MYO who were prevented an opportunity to bat due to rain.
In another rain affected game, University of Guyana (UG) who were inserted by Police reached 130-6 when rain prevented further play. Omesh Dhanram scored 30 while Rawl Haynes claimed 3-44.
