Private businesses in NA provide parking for customers but public institutions do not

Dear Editor,

When I go to the Republic Bank in New Amsterdam I am able to park my car in the place provided by the bank for parking.

When I go to the supermarket at J’s on Strand, I am able to park my car in the place provided by J’s at the back of the supermarket.

When I go to NBS in New Street I am able to park in the space provided in the compound.

When I go to Hand-in-Hand in New Street I am able to park in the space provided in the compound at the back.

When I go to the New Amsterdam Post Office I have to park on the edge of the road even though there is big unutilised yard space in the compound.

When I go to the NIS in New Amsterdam, this is the worst of all, since I have to park in the mud when rain falls even though there is big yard space in the compound unutilised.

When I go to the New Amsterdam hospital I have to park on the roadside even though there is adequate yard space for a portion to be allocated for public parking; the doctors and other hospital workers do not park on the roadside.

When I go to the New Amsterdam market there is nowhere to park so I go across to the customer parking at J’s.

Editor, please note that all the private businesses provide parking and the non-private institutions do not care where you park.

One way we can modernize Guyana is by providing adequate parking.

I hope those guilty of not providing parking for the people who go there to do business will wake up and put systems in place for our convenience.

Yours faithfully,
Ameer Bacchus
