A thirty-year-old miner was on Tuesday evening shot dead after an altercation with another man at Blackwater Landing, Konawaruk, Potaro. The suspect is at large.
Dead is Bevaun Anderson called ‘Saka’ of Lot 34 3rd Street, Jonestown, Mahaica.
Stabroek News understands that Anderson sustained two gunshot wounds to his back.
At his home yesterday, friends and relatives had gathered to console his distraught mother, Mayleen Anderson and sisters.
According to the woman, she last saw her son three years ago. “I haven’t seen him in a long time and then yesterday (Tuesday) a workmate called and said that he (Bevaun) get shoot,” she said.
Police in a release said that “investigations have revealed that Anderson and another man were involved in an argument during which he was shot and killed.” His sister, Swavia, told this newspaper that her brother was not the type to get into arguments and as such his death came as a shock to their family.
She added that they are making arrangements to have his body brought to the city as soon as possible.
Anderson leaves to mourn his mother, two brothers and four sisters.
His body is presently at the Mahdia Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
