An argument during a football game ended with one man being severely chopped and another stabbed last evening at Beterverwagting, on the East Coast of Demerara.
William Hendricks, 26, was chopped multiple times to his body and doctors were last evening battling to save his right arm, which was almost severed.
Also injured is David McAlmont, 24, who was stabbed to the head and cut about other parts of his body.
“They were playing football when he (McAlmont) tackled he (Hendricks) and they start rowing, then one fighting …me aint see weh he (Hendricks) get the knife from but next thing he stab he (Mc Almont) …then this one partner (Mc Almont) give he a cutlass and bare chops,” a young man from the village told Stabroek News.
The police were called and an on duty patrol responded and transported both men along with eyewitnesses to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
At the hospital, several relatives of Mc Almont, who is a welder at the La Bonne Intention sugar estate, turned up and expressed shock.
Up to press time no relative of Hendricks had showed up.
He was listed in as stable but critical and was rushed to surgery last evening.
