East Ruimveldt Secondary overcame defending female champions Tutorial Secondary 1-0 to seal a berth in the Georgetown final when the Guyana Sports Development Foundation (GSDF) Pepsi/Scotia Bank tourney continued on Sunday at the Ministry of Education ground.
Christine Thomas sealed the win for the Mandela Avenue side with a 58th minute conversion. With the win, East Ruimveldt will now face off with New Campbellville Secondary at the same venue on Saturday to determine who will represent the Georgetown zone at the national finale.
Last Saturday at the same venue, Charlestown Secondary led by an Omari James six goal haul, schooled Queen’s College by a 7-0 score line. Brian Price opened the floodgates as he found the back of the net in the 17th minute. The demolition would then commence as James netted his first in the 22nd minute. He would quickly complete his first half brace, netting two minutes later. The hat trick would soon follow as he once again netted in the 38th minute.
The lead would continue to grow as James sealed his helmet trick in the 50th minute. He would complete his tally for match as he found the back of the net two more times in the 58th and 60th minutes correspondingly.
With the win, Charlestown Secondary moved to six points from four games. Queens College due to the loss remained on six points from three games with one matchup remaining.
The second matchup of the day saw North Georgetown Secondary defeating New Campbellville Secondary by a 3-1 score line. Nehemiah Gomes opened the scoring for the winners with a 22nd minute conversion.
The lead would be doubled four minutes later as Daniel Nedd found the back of the net. The Sheriff Street unit would pull one back in the 38th minute as Emmanuel Pross scored. However, Rueben Miller would seal the win for the Woolford Avenue outfit as he found the back of the net in the 60th minute.
With the win, North Georgetown Secondary are now on 10 points from four games with one game remaining.
