The Ministry of Human Services and Social Security yesterday said that five children at the Berbice Anjuman Orphanage have been taken into protective care to facilitate a probe of a sexual abuse allegation.
The statement said that the Ministry had received a report of a child running away from the Berbice Anjuman Orphanage in New Amsterdam to his parent, alleging that he was sexually abused at the institution.
According to the Ministry, this report was received on 28th May, 2014 and the Child Care and Protection Agency responded immediately. The statement said that the Agency subsequently removed five other boys from the institution and placed them into protective care to facilitate an investigation. The Agency, in collaboration with the Guyana Police Force, is now investigating the report received.
