East Ruimveldt Secondary were crowned the Guyana Sports Development Foundation (GSDF) Pepsi/Scotia Bank Georgetown zone female champions, crushing New Campbellville Secondary 5-0 yesterday at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.
Troyann Barton opened the scoring for the winners in the 21st minute with a right footed strike into the back of the net from within the centre of the penalty box.
The lead would be doubled six minutes later as Decaycia Norville netted through a right footed penalty kick conversion to the back of the net, following a handball infringement within the area by the opposing defender. The lopsided encounter would continue in the second period as Deborah Waldron found the back of the net in the 45th minute with a right footed strike into the top left hand corner, after evading marker within the right side of the box.
It would become 4-0 four minutes later as Barton sealed her brace, lashing her right footed attempt into the lower right hand corner of the goal, from within the left side of the penalty area.
The result would be sealed in the 55th minute as Waldron completed her double, etching her name on the scorer’s sheet with a powerful flat right footed shot into the lower left hand corner, from inside the right side of the area.
With the win, East Ruimveldt Secondary sealed their inaugural Georgetown female title. They also earned the right to represent the Georgetown zone at the national tournament which is slated to commence shortly.
In the male section, Queen’s College defeated Christ Church Secondary by a 2-0 score while Tutorial Secondary edged derby rivals North Georgetown Secondary 5-4 in the battle for Woolford Avenue.
