“Just a disaster,” President Donald Ramotar said of the ongoing drama at City Hall over the past weeks.
According to Ramotar, “…Citizens should raise their voices a bit more as far as that is concerned.”
He told a news conference on Saturday that he doesn’t see why the Mayor and Councillors are fighting with Carol Sooba since all she has been trying to do is ensure accountability. “Sad that there is so much to do in city…. I think the Mayor should show some maturity and work. From all the information I have and have read… all the Town Clerk has been trying to do is ensure accountability and to ensure the viability of the council. Sooba is the government’s choice for Town Clerk while the city has picked Royston King.
“I don’t see why they should have a problem and create all these issues and the tensions they are having,” he said.
He added, “If you look at the city council they have more than 900 people working with them. Some of them you don’t even see… what they are being paid for I don’t know. Maybe these are the political patronage that is given at the level of the town council. Yet our city is in the way that it is,” he stated.
