Albouystown-A overcame Back Circle 4-3 on sudden death kicks following a nil-all score line at the end of normal time when the round of 16 stage in the Mackeson ‘Keep Your Five Alive’ commenced at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall Tarmac on Saturday.
Shaka Jones fired the first warning shot for Albouystown but his right footed effort from the right side of the park, was denied by the outstretched leg of the final Back Circle defender in the third minute.
Back Circle almost took the lead in the 10th minute through a Daniel Favourite right footed attempt that fizzed just wide of sneaking into the left hand corner, from the right side of the field.
A great one-on-one opportunity for Albouystown to break the deadlock would go-a begging in the 17th minute as Andrew Murray Jr. would be denied by a crunching tackle from the final defender in the centre of the field, following a counterattack. With normal time unable to settled the outcome, penalty kicks was then required. However, the first round of penalty kicks would finish 2-2 as both sides missed their respective first attempts from the spot.
It would quickly become 3-3 as the first round of sudden death kicks was able to break the gridlock. Albouystown would then take a 4-3 lead in as they converted their second sudden death attempt.
Needing to score to push the match into the third round of sudden death kicks, Back Circle’s Daniel Favourite would direct his attempt onto the left upright to seal his team’s tournament exit.
In the third fixture, Alexander Village came from behind to defeat Upsetters by a 3-2 margin. Sukeo Browne gave Upsetters the early lead in the fourth minute, placing his first time right footed effort into the left hand corner of the net.
Alexander Village would equalise in the ninth minute through a right footed Eon Singh penalty kick conversion, after the Upsetters unit had recklessly accumulated their allotted five fouls per half.
Shem Porter would then push Alexander Village into the lead in the 14th minute through the goal of the evening. Standing outside the centre of the box, Porter would direct his header down the middle of the goal, after latching onto a Delon Williams right sided cross.
It would become 3-1 one minute later as Porter completed his second half double, stabbing home his left footed effort into the back of the net, following a goal mouth scramble.
Eron Hayde would then pull one back for the Upsetters unit in the 18th minute, lashing his effort from the centre of the park down the middle of the goal, to setup a tense finish between the two sides.
Defending champions Sparta Boss sealed their berth in the quarterfinal stage, defeating Castello Housing Scheme 3-2 on sudden death kicks after normal time finished 0-0.
Devon Millington almost pushed Sparta Boss into the lead in the 14th minute as his right footed attempt from the right side of the field came crashing onto the woodwork.
He would then be denied four minutes later as his right footed shot from the left side of the park, was deflected to safety to by the outstretched leg of the final defender.
Unable to find a winner during normal time, penalty kicks was then utilised to decide the victor. Sparta Boss would quickly find themselves behind the eight ball as they missed their first two strikes from the spot. However Castello Housing Scheme would fail to capitalise on Sparta Boss’s blunder after scoring their first shot by missing their next two strikes.
With the fixture at 1-0 in the favour of Castello Housing Scheme and needing a goal to push the match into sudden death kicks, Sparta Boss’s Eusi Phillips would clinically convert his attempt, to keep their title defence alive.
It would then become 2-2 on sudden death kicks as both sides converted their first attempts. Castello Housing Scheme would then miss from the spot in their second sudden death attempt, allowing Devon Millington to net the subsequent winner in Sparta Boss’s next strike.
In the opening fixture, Melanie defeated Parfait Harmonie by a 1-0 score line through a Kellon Loncke 18th minute conversion. The second matchup of the night witnessed Texas upsetting Albouystown-B 1-0.
Alvin Chase separated the two sides in the ninth minute, directing his first time effort into the back of the net from the left side of the goal. In the fourth fixture, West Front Road edged Sophia 4-3 on sudden death kicks after normal time concluded with the scores at 0-0.
North East La Penitence would then overcome Broad Street by a 3-2 score on sudden death kicks in the sixth matchup after the two teams were unable to be separated as normal time finished nil-all.
The seventh matchup of the evening saw Tiger Bay defeating arch-rivals Leopold Street 2-0 on penalty kicks. The normal time score at the end of regulation time was 0-0.
