The University of Guyana scored a blow out win over the Georgetown Technical Institute (GTI) in their U19 matchup when the Youth Basketball Guyana Conference Championships continued on Saturday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue.
UG won 42-28.
Jonathan Pooran led the Turkeyen outfit with a game high 17 points. He was assisted by Lashawn Hooper and Carlos Edwards who netted 12 and five points respectively. Leading the Woolford Avenue outfit with five points was Darroll Williams.
In the second matchup of the division, Plaisance Academy swamped Charlestown Secondary 59-19 score line. Andrew Johnson led the way for the East Coast side with 14 points. He was assisted by Kelvin Yorrick who registered figures of 11 points, five rounds and seven steals.
Netting nine points in the loss was John Amoniki. Continuing in the same division, Bishops’ High crushed Brickdam Secondary 49-28. Marvin Durant led the winners with 19 points while Somesh Danram and Daniel Haynes supported with 12 and 10 points respectively.
Leading the offence for the losers with eight and seven points respectively were Rondell Archer and Joshua Lee. In the final matchup of the division, St. Rose’s defeated President’s College 48-44.
Nathaniel Saul registered an impressive tournament high 29 points in the win for the Church Street outfit. Netting 14 and 10 points respectively in the loss were Shaquille Adams and Jaleel Duke.
In the U16 section, Marian Academy brushed aside Bishop’s High 34-21. Judah Stephney led the way with figures of 11 points and four rebounds. He was supported by Jonathan Mangra who contributed seven points and six rebounds.
Registering a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds in the loss was Timothy Thompson. In the U14 division, Bishops’ High squeaked past St. Rose’s High 15-11. In the Corentyne Zone, JC Chandisingh Secondary crushed Lower Corentyne Secondary 40-22.
Kelvin Deolall led the way for the winners with 14 points. Assisting in the win with 11 points Simeon Fraser. For the losers the top scorer with 12 points was Kevon Wiggins.
